About the Trust

Founded to put education and healthcare within everyone's reach.

ARAM Educational and Charitable Trust was established to build and run institutions of general, technical, medical, nursing, dental and catering education, and to carry that same spirit of service into healthcare — through clinics, hospitals and direct relief for the poor. Beyond the classroom and the clinic, the Trust funds research, hosts seminars on social and economic questions, and puts books, scholarships and study materials directly into the hands of students who need them most.

Every clause below is drawn directly from our founding deed — the charter that governs how the Trust works.

Education & Training

Institutions of Learning

To establish, maintain, and administer educational institutions imparting general education, technical education, medical education, nursing courses, dental courses, catering institutes, and other educational programs.

Specialised Teaching

To organize specialized teaching in different branches of arts, science, medicine and technology, give instructions in specialized courses in the aforesaid and allied subjects that may be instituted in any of the universities in India.

Coaching for the Poor

To cultivate in the staff and students of the institution a sense of social, scientific and technical awareness and cultural conscience.

Awareness & Conscience

To organize special coaching and training to poor children and/or provide for free distribution of books, study materials, educational appliances.

Research & Outreach

Publication

To undertake publication of research studies, magazines, periodicals etc., produced by the institutions established by the trust.

Seminars & Conferences

Hold refresher courses, seminars and conferences on current social, economic and cultural issues.

Scientific Research

Carry out research in medicine, engineering, agriculture, economics, management and computer science.

Student & Community Support

Scholarships & Stipends

Give books, scholarships, stipends and financial assistance to poor and meritorious students.

Relief for the Needy

Extend financial assistance and medical relief to poor and distressed people in the community.

Clinics & Hospitals

Establish and run clinics and hospitals, staffed by qualified doctors and support personnel.

      Powers & Duties of the Board

      Twenty-one clauses set the limits and the authority of the Board of Trustees — how it holds property, spends money, meets, decides and answers for itself.

      Rules We Hold Ourselves To

      General Principles

      i.

      On winding up or dissolution — the net funds of the Trust would be transferred only to institutions having similar objects and enjoying exemption under Section 11 and Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

      ii.

      Territory — the activities of the Trust would be confined strictly to the territory of India.

      iii.

      Nature of activity — every activity would be of a purely charitable nature, never motivated by profit.

      iv.

      Open to all — the benefit of the Trust's objects would be available to the general public, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or sex.

      v.

      Regulated investment — the funds of the institution would be invested strictly as permitted under Section 11(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

      vi.

      Secular use of funds — the funds of the Institution would never be applied for any religious purpose, nor given to any religious institution.

      vii.

      Property oversight — alienation of immovable property would be carried out only with the prior approval of the Director of Income Tax (Exemption), Chennai.

      viii.

      Started from zero — at the time of Trust registration, the Trust held no movable or immovable property of its own.

      Rules We Hold Ourselves To

      General Principles

      At the time of Trust Registration, no moveable and immoveable property in this Trust.

      "It is declared that the Trust is irrevocable. If the Trust fails for any reason, the net assets shall be handed over to any other Trust having the same objects."
